DATA
Program Assessment & School Counselor Self-Assessment
- This allows the school counselor to evaluate how the school counseling program aligns with the ASCA National Model.
- This evaluation shows that I am willing to look at my effectiveness and what areas I can grow in to successfully advocate for students and help them to achieve their own success.
- No matter a student’s ability, I believe that each student can learn and be successful in their learning experience. While each student may be at a different learning level, it does not mean that they cannot be successful. This just means that their ability may be different from their peers.
- It is important to me that all students have access to a high-quality education. I also believe that collaborating with those involved in the students’ education is important. When school counselors, teachers, administrators, parents, students, and other relevant staff members collaborate, they can provide a more effective school counseling experience and education for students.
Developing Program Goals and Using Survey Data:
- Goals are developed after reviewing the needs of students, data trends, and looking at school improvement plans.
- Annual Results reports can be designed to ensure that there is an assessment of school counseling programs to determine the effectiveness and identify where the needs of students are.
- By analyzing results, school counselors can determine what progress has been made in student learning and student outcomes.
Types of Data:
- Participation:
- Who is involved (the number)
- The number of lessons and sessions
- How long
- Mindsets and Behaviors
- Given to the students
- Shows the change in knowledge, attitudes, and skills of students
- Outcome
- How student achievements, discipline, and attendance have been impacted.
The Impact of Data:
- The review of data over time allows us to identify gaps, strengths, and other issues. This allows school counselors to determine which goals are most necessary.
