DELIVER

The Deliver Component is where we implement our school counseling program and how our services are delivered to help student success.

DIRECT SERVICES

These services consist of those services that are provided to students directly. This includes classroom lessons/activities, individual planning where students set goals and plan for the future, and short-term counseling services in small groups or one-on-one.

  • Instruction
    • Instruction is when the school counselor or staff member provides a lesson on a specific topic to help students grow academically, socially/emotionally, and gain the knowledge they need to be successful throughout life. Instruction can be provided in large groups, small groups, or individually.
  • Appraisal
    • An appraisal is where the school counselor assesses the student’s interests, abilities, and skills. The school counselor may use interest inventories or achievement tests to help determine the best path for the student.
  • Advisement
    • The school counselor guides students based on their abilities, skills, or interests. The counselor also uses data from assessments to ensure the students are provided the best opportunities for their academics and careers.
  • Counseling
    • Counseling provides students with support and guidance for problems they may be experiencing, academic support, or transitions. School counselors provide counseling that supports students’ success in social/emotional well-being, academics, and careers.

INDIRECT SERVICES

Indirect services are when the school counselor consults with teachers, families, and other staff members. The school counselor serves as an advocate for students to help ensure student success.

  • Consultation
    • A consultation is where individuals meet to provide opinions, advice, or information to support students.
  • Collaboration
    • Collaboration can occur in a variety of situations, such as crisis response, committees, workshops, and communities. Collaboration allows individuals to work together to achieve a goal to produce a better outcome for all the individuals involved.
  • Referrals
    • Referrals allow students to receive more support. The school counselor may no longer be able to provide the student the help they need, or it may be beyond their scope of practice. The referral allows the student to continue to have the best care and resources to support their needs.
